Standing With Our Community: A Message From Our Co-founders

Alex Lorton

June 9, 2020

TBD

To our Cater2.me team, clients and vendor partners,

We are heartbroken and compelled by the events we have watched unfold across the country over these last few weeks. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmad Arbery, to name but a few, are unacceptable and we grieve with Black and Brown communities across America.

We stand with the members of our Cater2.me community in supporting peaceful protests for racial justice, equity, equality, and inclusion. This is a difficult time, and we understand that listening, enhancing, supporting, and comprehending important voices that haven’t had the previous attention they deserve is critical to determining how we can best advance change both as a nation and as individuals.

We have taken time to listen: to our Black colleagues, community leaders, our vendors, and to the voices of historically oppressed communities. We seek to take these learnings to heart, and we will continue to reflect on these conversations in our personal and professional relationships going forward. We recognize that being part of this conversation and educating ourselves about race and anti-racism is our responsibility, and we commit to that today.

From the start of Cater2.me, a core aspect of our mission has been to work with small, minority-owned businesses and to help them build their businesses within and beyond their local communities. We’ve always believed that to share a meal is to share a culture, and to share a culture is to share understanding. But we know that alone isn’t enough. We will focus our efforts on helping underrepresented groups develop and sustain meaningful business to help amplify their voices and positively impact their communities.

Listening, learning, and understanding are all important, but action is essential. In the coming weeks, we will partner with our clients to make donations to black-owned vendor businesses to provide meals to non-profit organizations supporting equal rights and Black community causes. We will also be rolling out an internal initiative to give our employees dedicated paid time off to volunteer with organizations that support Black communities.

Cater2.me has always sought to foster a diverse, inclusive, and open community, and during these times, and for all time, we stand united against hate and intolerance.

We stand in solidarity with you.

Black lives matter.
