Cater2.me's Becca Kavich

How long have you have you worked for Cater2.me?

I’ve been with Cater2.me for just over 2 years.

How did you hear about Cater2.me?

My degree is in hospitality management. I really wanted to find a way to fuse my education with creativity and my love of food. After reading about Cater2.me, I really appreciated the personal touch they provide, in addition to their efforts to build and support the local food scene. I love helping people and discovering great food in Austin. It just seemed like the right fit!

How has Cater2.me changed since you joined the team?

When I was hired, I was employee number 55. Since then, we have more than doubled in size.  It’s been really fun to observe everything that comes with a growing company. We have departments full of people now! (I’m lookin’ at you, accounting and tech). We have so many great people working here and a real sense of community.

What is your role at Cater2.me?

I’m a Senior Operations Manager. I manage the daily order flow, check in with vendors, handle client requests, and develop close relationships with clients.

What is the most unusual client request you have received?

We received a request for mac and cheese for 200 people. Because, Texas.

Tell us your craziest Cater2.me story.

We had an employee retreat in the snowy mountains of Utah last year. It was amazing. The drive up the mountain, not so much. Our van was the last one in, and at about midnight, it got stuck in the snow on a cliff. We all hopped out of the van, shivering, with fingers crossed that we weren’t going to have to walk the rest of the way. Luckily, we made it out and got to the lodge. We shared a few beers to celebrate.

What has your favorite Cater2.me tasting been?

We just had an amazing tasting with The Wafel Guys, two Belgian chefs serving authentic Liège waffles in Austin! They offer sweet waffles, with toppings like banana cream and speculaas dust, and savory ones with bacon, brie, and basil – all prepared on-site.  So good.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve overcome at Cater2.me?

Things can be pretty fast-paced at Cater2.me. I think keeping calm under pressure is a necessity and something that took a little while to master. We joke here that our boss could remain calm in literally any situation, and I think it has really rubbed off.

What’s your favorite cuisine?

Japanese.

What do you do outside of work?

Did you know that it’s crazy hot in Texas? Right now, my weekends consist of finding a place to swim or enjoy a cold beverage and live music at any and every opportunity.

What is the office culture like in Austin?

We are all pretty laid back and low-key. It’s generally calm and quiet, and I think we all like that. I know I do. We also practice what we preach, and make it a point to eat lunch all together almost every day.  You really know someone when you eat with them, and it has helped to keep our team strong.

If you could work in another office, which one would you choose?

The Seattle office, because I love the Pacific Northwest. I think it’s the most beautiful part of the country.

We heard that Austin has a tradition that when you join the team, you get a piñata. What’s yours?

Mine is a minion. Shout out to Piñata Party Palace on Cesar Chavez!

Describe Cater2.me in three words.
